Docker QA Testing - What Works and What Does Not

Session Number: 1482 | Room Assignment: Banyan C

Date and Time: Wednesday April 25, 4:15pm - 5:15pm

Martin Knazovicky, Global Technical Services Manager

Docker Containers have become one of the hottest tools in application development. Here at Dbvisit we started to play with Docker Containers a couple of years back when we wanted to see how we can improve our application development and QA.

My introductory session will dive into the good, the bad and the ugly of using Docker Containers for what they may have not necessarily been designed for - to run QA testing on containers running Oracle Database and applications including logical and/or physical replication.

The session will include samples of what I use Docker for, in terms of QA and testing. I will also discuss different Docker approaches (within our development and QA departments) and their advantages and disadvantages.

Disaster Recovery in the Cloud Is Knocking on the Door – Will You Let It In?

Anton Els, VP Engineering

Natural disasters are not something that should be taken lightly when talking about Disaster Recovery (DR) for software, the impact on the business can be catastrophic. There are options to protect your business against disaster, whether it is human error, hardware failure or a natural disaster that happens. Your company can invest in all of the components to establish a protected environment in-house. But why not consider a solution where your DR site is Cloud based? In this session we will review Disaster Recovery and the Cloud.  We will discuss considerations as well as examine areas such as lower total cost of ownership, a higher level of customer satisfaction and faster go to market options. To ensure you can adequately advise your business on running DR in the Cloud, don't miss this session!

RMAN, Oracle Database and Multitenant

Anton Els, VP Engineering

RMAN, as most know it, is one of the most important utilities in a DBA's arsenal. In earlier releases it is fair to say that occasionally it did create havoc and some DBA's were afraid to use it. Is it too complex? “Backup database” - does not look too complex does it? In Oracle Database 12c, Multitenant was introduced and RMAN received a lot of attention with exciting new options. From full to partial backups, using cumulative or differential incremental backups, image copies or backup sets, in this session we will demonstrate how you can use RMAN to help protect your data as well as manage backup and recovery of your Oracle Database 12c Multitenant environment - including backups in cloud based solutions.

AWS, Azure and Oracle: the Battle of the Clouds

Anton Els, VP Engineering

The battle of the clouds is not new... it has been going on for a few years now. Lets step back and take a look at Oracle Database options available to you in AWS, Azure and the Oracle Cloud. Comparing these can be a time consuming task. In this session let's take a look at some of the key areas you should review and take into account when looking at the Cloud options for hosting your database. Areas that will be discussed include backup and disaster recovery options available to you.
