Multiple Standby Databases

Dbvisit allows multiple standby databases to be kept up to date from one primary database. The standby databases can be either local or remote.

Multiple standby databases can be used for:

Each standby database can have its own schedule which dictates how far behind it is with the primary database. So a reporting database can be 4-8 hours behind the primary database whereas a shadow standby database can only be 2 minutes behind the primary database.

Cascading standby databases (Instant protection for failover site).

Multiple standby databases on different standby servers gives instant disaster recovery protection should the failover site suffer a failure. In the event that the primary database is no longer available due to a disaster or other outage, failover is initiated to one of the standby databases so that this becomes the new primary database and business continuity is assured. The other standby database is then instantly available and kept up to date to ensure protection for the new primary database.

For example:

Primary database A keeps standby databases A1 and A2 up to date:

A Disaster occurs and primary database A is out of service:
A1 becomes the new primary database and
A2 becomes the standby database for A1:

Dbvisit allows for a fallback scenario giving instant protected in case of a failure at the failover site.
