Question:
We currently have data guard running but want to install Dbvisit Standby to replace this. Before the installation of Dbvisit Standby should we change any data guard, init or primary parameters? And, in this instance, do we just install Dbvisit Standby as a 'normal installation', according to the installation guide? Answer: You do not have to change any of the data guard init.ora parameters or primary init.ora parameters. Just install Dbvisit Standby according to the normal installation guide. Dbvisit Standby can actually be configured in parallel with data guard. Just ensure that data guard is turned off (on primary and standby) when starting Dbvisit Standby. Things to look out for:
1. Dbvisit Standby and DG should not be active at the same time. Only one should be active at a time. 2. After DG has been active, Dbvisit Standby will need to synchronise with the standby database so that it knows what the last sequence was that was applied to the standby database. Otherwise Dbvisit Standby will start from where it left off previously. Synchronisation can be done with the command: dbvisit -R database_name Last edited by Mike Donovan; 07-12-2011 at 04:29 PM. |
