Question:
The Dbvisit installation instructions specify using RMAN to create the standby database using an incremental level 0 backup. Why is this done? Could a full backup be used instead? Answer: Yes a full backup is also possible. We used RMAN as an example, because many databases do not have a shutdown window for a full backup to be taken. For non RMAN steps for creating a standby database, please see here: http://www.dbvisit.com/docs/Creating...base_linux.pdf (scroll down to Creating a standby database (traditional method) - Linux/Unix). The following post also has useful information on this topic: http://www.dbvisit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5 Furthermore from version 5.2 of Dbvisit the application itself now includes an option to automatically create the standby database. |
